Oranges at Home (Fall 2019)

The dress is inspired by a photo of oranges and apricots that I had taken in China at my grandma's house earlier this year. This photo is very sentimental to me as it symbolizes my visit to China and seeing my grandparents for the first time in 15 years since I was a toddler. 'Oranges at home' manifests my feelings of realizing that I have another home, a home that really was my first as a baby before I was brought to Canada.

The sleeves and collar of the dress are made of an organza print of this photo, the hand felting is a graphic pattern that I created from this photo. In addition, the pink netting fabric that I overlaid on the right silk panel of my dress mimics the yellow fruit wrapping that is also shown in the photo.
